Edwyn Collins: Understated CD
Here are a few words from Edwyn about the Understated sleeve.
"The salmon - it's a lino-cut I did about ten years ago. I did an eagle, a salmon and a roe deer. It was an experiment, I liked how they turned out. I draw a lot these days, birds and wildlife, but when I looked at the old salmon, it seemed perfect for my sleeve. And a very old drawing, I call it "Mixed Fish" for the inner sleeve. The other thing I did two years ago was to design a font. I do these things for my own pleasure, really, to help my dexterity, my recovery. So, I decided to put my font to good use. I've worked with Rob Crane, the designer, since the 90s. He's brilliant, it's always easy with Rob. Mr Hedi Slimane, a kind and perfect gentleman, allowed me to use a photo he took at my studio last year on the back and hey presto! A lovely, shiny record sleeve, which satisfies me very much."

John Niven, novelist and screenwriter, on UNDERSTATED: ’31 years of rock and roll,’ Collins sings on, well, ‘31 Years’. The remarkable thing is that he sings it without sorrow, or any sense of a rueful look down the past, but with the joy that he really couldn’t have done anything finer with his life. The fact that the track breezes and swaggers like a teenager beautifully undercuts the point - it really has been that long.
Here's DILEMNA. It's January in the Highlands of Scotland and Edwyn is considering the contradictions of his life...
And 'Too Bad, That's Sad', directed by the brilliant Kieran Evans:
